子宮頚癌予防ワクチン Cervarix HPV Vaccine
日本では年間15,000人が罹患し、3,500人が死亡する子宮頚癌。定期的な検診が現在最も有効な対応策ですが、今回ワクチンによる予防も可能になりました。
子宮頚癌発症の原因の「ヒトパピローマウイルス」（HPV)の感染を予防するワクチンが日本でも承認され、現在接種可能です。
商品名は「サーバリックス」です。ヒトパピローマウイルスには幾つかの型がありますが、発がん性のある16型と18型に対してのワクチンです。この二つの型は子宮頚癌の６割ほどに感染が関与しております。
性行為による感染前の接種が理想的ですが、１０歳以上の全ての女性に接種可能です。
全部で３回の接種が必要です。通常は１ヶ月間隔で２回、その６ヶ月後に３回目を接種します。

Cervarix, the vaccine against Human Papilloma Virus(HPV) types 16 and 18, is now available in Japan. HPV is a sexually transmitted virus with many subtypes, some of which are related to the development of cervical cancer. Type 16 and 18 are involved in 60 to 70%of cervical cancers and vaccination is thought to be effective in preventing these cancers. Approximately 11,000 new cases of cervical cancer are diagnosed per year in the United States (15,000 in Japan) and lead to 4,000 deaths (3,500 in Japan).
Vaccination prior to becoming sexually active is recommended, but the vaccine is approved for use in all women 10 years or older.
Three injections are required to complete the series, the first two one month apart and the third six months later.
Primary Care Tokyo is now offering this vaccine at ¥16,000 per injection.
